There were bad storytellers in the land... These bad storytellers scared the children. They bored the young people and put the grown ups to sleep. They were so bad that stories disappeared from the land.
The people were very sad for without good stories there is no way to remind the people that they are good and strong and beautiful. The people were lost for without good stories there is no way to teach about the four great directions. The people were angry for there was no one to teach the trickster stories where the people laugh at themselves and no one to teach humility. The people were afraid for without good stories there is nothing to do in the darkness. But worst of all the people were lonely, and this loneliness was so deep and dark and terrible that finally some of the people said, "Enough of this foolishness!"
I want to light again the sacred fire. I want to gather with my brothers and sisters again in the sacred circle. I want to hear good stories that help me to grow. I want to dance and sing with my brothers and sisters. I want to eat good foods. I want to drink magical drinks from exotic lands. I want to make beautiful things to share and to trade. I want to learn again how to play. I want to live and love and laugh rather than just survive. And these people who said such things began to drum. As people danced to the drumminng they began to awaken, These awake people became the Joyful Beings.
So all you good, strong, beautiful people here tonight welcome to our sacred fire, welcome to our sacred circle.
